Vice President of European Commission visits the Greek Centre

Vice President of the European Commission, Mr. Margaritis Schinas, visited the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM), meeting with President Bill Papastergiadis OAM and members of the Board. The visit included a tour of the Greek Centre, where Mr. Schinas learned about GCM's cultural and educational initiatives. President Bill Papastergiadis, OAM, emphasised the importance of preserving Greek heritage in the diaspora, showcasing how GCM has evolved into a significant hub for Greek cultural expression. Mr. Schinas was accompanied by the Consul General of Greece, Emmanuel Kakavelakis, and the EU Ambassador to Australia, Gabriele Visentin.

Fourteen outstanding students from GCM schools were recognised at the achievement ceremony for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek, which took place at the Consulate General of Melbourne. The GCM schools, in a bid to promote greater student participation, offered scholarships covering exam costs and provided complimentary preparatory lessons.
