Alphington Grammar School's famous Mother’s Day High Tea was held on Saturday 6 May - a wonderful event in recognition of mothers, grandmothers, aunties, big sisters and women everywhere who provide strong role modelling to the next generation. GCM Board members met with representatives of the National Union of Greek-Australian Students at the Greek Centre, on 1 May. On behalf of the GCM, were present: President Bill Papastergiadis, Hon. General Secretary Costas Markos, Vice-President Theodore Markos, Treasurer Prof. Marinis Pirpiris, Co-chairperson of Lonsdale St Greek Festival Leonidas Vlahakis and Spiros Papadopoulos, Jim Bossinakis, Christos Sikavitsas and Phillip Vassiliadis. The students were briefed about the GCM's activities and future programs and ideas were exchanged on how more young people can get involved with the GCM. | MORE

LIVE AT THE GREEK RETURNS IN JUNE

The Greek Centre is set to become a Friday night favourite again with the return of Live at the Greek, a fortnightly music program showcasing Melbourne's best Greek musicians. Grab a parea, settle in with a drink and enjoy an evening of traditional and contemporary sounds. The 2017 series will launch on Friday 16 June with Lavant Garde, playing classic Greek laika, entexna and rebetika. Lavant Garde features Evangelia Baxa (vocals), Jacob Papadopoulos (bouzouki, tzoura), Chris Kimon (guitar) and Irene Kostetsou (keyboard).
