The President of the Greek Community of Melbourne Bill Papastergiadis and the Hon General Secretary Costas Markos met with the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos and the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, as well as with the Minister for Culture, the Minister for Tourism, the Mayor of Athens and leaders of political parties, during their recent trip to Athens. | MORE

LIVE AT THE GREEK: DIO + DIO
The Greek Centre is a Friday night favourite yet again with the return of Live at the Greek, a fortnightly music program showcasing Melbourne's best Greek musicians. Grab a parea, settle in with a drink and enjoy an evening of traditional and contemporary sounds. Brand new act Dio + Dio (2 + 2) will hit the stage on Friday 28 July, a hybrid Cretan-Macedonian four-piece who will play a combination of northern and southern sounds. The line up features George Vardakis (lyra, vocals), John Lionakis (laouto), Joseph Tsombanopoulos (gaida, askomantoura, flogera, vocals), and Dimitris Tsombanopoulos (percussion).

‘A hero can be defined as someone who goes beyond himself or exceeds his supposed limitations for the benefit of others.’ In this performance, the three actors present key moments from Ancient Greek Tragedy followed by a global issue which concerns all of us. The parallel between the two triggers an awakening which highlights the power of the theatre as a medium and at the same time alerts us to the current state we are in. | MORE
