SUPPORT GREECE’S VOLUNTEER FIRE SERVICE

In the wake of the devastating Athens fires the GCM is raising funds to support the UNION OF HELLENIC FIRE SERVICE VOLUNTEERS. The UHFSV has over 2000 members and requires protective clothing to safeguard them during their dangerous work.

Level 1 protective clothing costs approximately 1000 euro each and are sourced from Greek manufacturers. The GCM will ensure that all funds go directly to purchase the uniforms needed with president Bill Papastergiadiis

The Greek Centre has become a Friday night favourite again with the return of Live at the Greek, a fortnightly music program showcasing Melbourne's best Greek musicians. Grab a parea, settle in with a drink and enjoy an evening of traditional and contemporary sounds. Friday 07 September Omados takes pride in performing authentic Greek music traditions. Joseph Tsombanopoulos (gaida, tsambouna, kaval, lyra & vocals) together with George Athanasakos (clarinet, outi & vocals), Kat Stevens (violin), Paddy Montgomery (lute, cumbus) and Rosco Heck (percussion) will travel the regional dance music of Greece, including Thrace, Macedonia, Epirus, Peloponnese and the Islands featuring a range of local instruments. Omados takes pride in performing authentic Greek music traditions.
