GREEK STUDIES PROGRAM TO CONTINUE AT LA TROBE

Following much negotiation over the past 6 weeks, an agreement to continue the Greek Language Program at La Trobe University was reached last week. In a historic agreement signed by the University, the Greek Community of Melbourne in association with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, the program will continue with financial support raised by the Greek community however needs to increase enrolments significantly over the next 3 to 5 years. Συμφωνία για τη συνέχιση του Προγράμματος Ελληνικών Σπουδών στο Πανεπιστήμιο La Trobe επιτεύχθηκε την περασμένη εβδομάδα, μετά από πολλές διαπραγματεύσεις τις τελευταίες έξι εβδομάδες.

LIVE AT THE GREEK SNEAKS IN ONE MORE SHOW IN 2020

The very popular Live At the Greek  program managed to get one more show in for 2020 with Melbourne’s very own Ataki (Rebetiki without Taki) performed to a sold out show this past Friday 19 December. It was exciting to see live music being played in the Delphi Bank Mezzanine and the Melbourne (now) trio did not disappoint.
Live at the Greek will be back in 2021, so watch this space for a program announcement soon.

THE 2021 SEMINAR SERIES PROGRAM IS RELEASED WITH A MAJOR FOCUS ON THE 200 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1821 WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

The program for the GCM’s Greek History and Culture Seminar Series for 2021 has just been released. As 2021 coincides with the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence, it’s probably the most ambitious series attempted so far. More than half the program has been dedicated to 1821 themes. THE GCM GREEK LANGUAGE & CULTURE SCHOOLS

The enrolments at the Greek Language and Culture Schools of the Greek Community of Melbourne for the new school year are continuing. Our schools provide innovative and high-quality Greek Language and Culture classes for students from Kinder to VCE. Children learn to speak Greek in a fun and engaging environment, through song, dance, crafts and creative drama during the early years, as well as more formal methods as they reach appropriate ages.

NEW COURSE – Modern Greek for Late Beginners

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop their communication skills in Modern Greek and their knowledge and understanding of the Greek language and culture.
Provided only online – Wednesdays 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. AEST.
Commences: 6 February 2021
Duration: 8 weeks x 2 hours
Cost: $200 plus cost of coursebooks ($140)
Class is limited to 10 students.
