THE GCM’s PROGRAM CELEBRATING 200th ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1821 WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

2021 sees Greece and the Greek diaspora celebrating the 200 year anniversary of the War of Independence and the creation of the modern Greek state. To celebrate this event the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria, with the support of the official Greece21 Committee, has created a year long program of events for your enjoyment.

SEMINARS: DID THE GREEK REVOLUTION OF THE 1821 REALLY HAPPEN? 

Professor Vrasidas Karalis, from the University of Sydney, will present an online lecture entitled “Did the Greek Revolution of 1821 really happen? Myths, counter-myths and historical knowledge’, on Thursday 4 March 2021 (7.00pm), as a part of the 2021 Greek History and Culture Seminars series, offered by the Greek Community of Melbourne.

GREECE21: THE LONSDALE STREET GREEK MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Lonsdale Street Greek Music Festival is a live musical festival the features some of Melbourne’s best Greek bands and musicians.Taking place in Lonsdale street’s Golden Square carpark this two day event will also be home to Melbourne’s greatest Greek food trucks.

MEETING WITH MINISTER HUND ON COVID-19 VACCINE ROLE OUT

The President of the GCM Bill Papastergiadis was invited to a roundtable meeting with Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care Greg Hunt and other community leaders around Australia. Also, in the meeting were Acting Chief Medical Officer Professor Michael Kidd and Dr Monique Stone, Head of the TGA, which is tasked with assessing the quality of the vaccines.

Ο Πρόεδρος της Κοινότητας προσκλήθηκε σε συνάντηση στρογγυλής τραπέζης με τον Υπουργό Χαντ και άλλους κοινοτικούς παράγοντες από όλη την Αυστραλία. Επίσης, στη συνάντηση συμμετείχε ο Αναπληρωτής Ιατρικός Διευθυντής Καθηγητής Michael Kidd και η Δρ Monique Stone, επικεφαλής της υπηρεσίας TGA, στην οποία ανατέθηκε η αξιολόγηση της ποιότητας των εμβολίων για τον κορωνοϊό.

The Greek Community of Melbourne Language Schools provide innovative and high-quality Greek Language and Culture classes for students from Kinder to VCE. Children learn to speak Greek in a fun and engaging environment, through song, dance, crafts and creative drama during the early years, as well as more formal methods as they reach appropriate ages.
