ONLINE SEMINAR: OUR PAOK: Refugees, Sports and Venizelism in interwar Thessaloniki

French-Greek historian at the École Normale Supérieure - Paris, Lukas Tsiptsios, will present an online lecture titled “Bizim PAOK – Our PAOK: Refugees, Sports, and Venizelism in Interwar Thessaloniki”, on Thursday 6 August @ 7PM.  The lecture is presented in English and is offered as part of the Greek History and Culture Seminars presented by the Greek Community of Melbourne.

O Ελληνο-Γάλλος ιστορικός του École Normale Supérieure - Παρίσι, Λούκας Τσίπτσιος, θα παρουσιάσει μια διαδικτυακή διάλεξη για τον ΠΑΟΚ Θεσσαλονίκης, την Πέμπτη 6 Αυγούστου, ως μέρος των Σεμιναρίων Ελληνικής Ιστορίας και Πολιτισμού, που προσφέρονται από την Ελληνική Κοινότητα Μελβούρνης.

NEW FREE ONLINE ΙNTRODUCTORY COURSE TO CLASSICAL GREEK (August-November 2020)

Catering to the needs of students in year 7 and 8 who wish to increase their cultural literacy, investigate the origins of philosophy, science, politics, rhetoric, history and literature, be inspired from the moral insight and virtue of the classical world, read the architects of western civilization in their own words and finally select it next year as a subject of their study program which will allow them to participate in the VCE Classical Greek examinations and be benefited from its high score scaling. After completing this course, students who wish to take it as a subject of their study program need to enrol in our formal year 9 Classical Greek class in 2021.
New class commencing Saturday 15 August.
Where: Online via Zoom or Skype When: Saturdays, 5:30-7:00 pm, starting 15 /08/2020
Tuition: Free
Books: Students need to purchase textbooks and workbooks

NEW ONLINE PROGRAM - GREEK FOR LATE BEGINNERS

A new online program for late beginners is being offered by the GCM since mid-July. It is aimed at students aged 10-18 who wish to start learning Greek at a beginner’s level. This course provides students with the opportunity to develop their communication skills in Modern Greek and their knowledge and understanding of the Greek language and culture. Classes will be limited to 10 students. No prior knowledge of Greek is required. New courses are commencing in early October. For more information and to enrol, click on greekcommunity.com.au/glb

Ένα νέο πρόγραμμα που θα προσφέρεται αποκλειστικά μέσω διαδικτύου ξεκίνησε στα μέσα Ιουλίου η Κοινότητά μας. Το πρόγραμμα απευθύνεται σε μαθητές ηλικίας 10 -18 ετών που ξεκινούν να μαθαίνουν ελληνικά για πρώτη φορά. Στόχος του προγράμματος είναι η ανάπτυξη των επικοινωνιακών και διαπολιτισμικών δεξιοτήτων των μαθητών στα ελληνικά. Καινούργια τμήματα θα ξεκινήσουν αρχές Οκτωβρίου. Tα τμήματα θα είναι ολιγομελή (μέχρι 10 άτομα).

Students of the Greek Community of Melbourne Language Schools participate in theatrical plays, and radio stories using the new technology from home and presented by the SBS Greek program.
