DELPHI ECONOMIC FORUM 2020

An interesting discussion on strengthening the relations between Greece and Diaspora took place online on Thursday 18 June, as part of the 5th Delphi Economic Forum, with the participation of the President of the Greek Community of Melbourne and Director of the law firm Moray and Agnew, Mr. Bill Papastergiadis.

SCHOOL KIDS PERFORM RADIO-THEATRICAL PLAYS ON SBS

SBS Greek Program  / Every Wednesday 5-6pm
Students from the Greek Community of Melbourne's Language Schools take part in theatrical plays, and radio stories using the new technology from home. The first radio-theatrical play in by SBS Greek series "Kids Performing Theatrical Roles in Front of a Microphone" is Jules Verne's fascinating novel "Around the World in Eighty Days".

A NEW ONLINE PROGRAM – GREEK FOR LATE BEGINNERS

A new GCM online program for late beginners is commencing in mid-July. It is aimed at students aged 10-18 who wish to start learning Greek at a beginner’s level. This course provides students with the opportunity to develop their communication skills in Modern Greek and their knowledge and understanding of the Greek language and culture. The online courses will be provided every Wednesday afternoon, from 4:30 - 6:30. Classes will be limited to 10 students. No prior knowledge of Greek is required. Ένα νέο πρόγραμμα που θα προσφέρεται αποκλειστικά μέσω διαδικτύου ξεκινάει στα μέσα Ιουλίου η Κοινότητά μας. Το πρόγραμμα απευθύνεται σε μαθητές ηλικίας 10 -18 ετών που ξεκινούν να μαθαίνουν ελληνικά για πρώτη φορά. Στόχος του προγράμματος είναι η ανάπτυξη των επικοινωνιακών και διαπολιτισμικών δεξιοτήτων των μαθητών στα ελληνικά. Τα ηλεκτρονικά μαθήματα θα προσφέρονται κάθε Τετάρτη απόγευμα, από τις 4:30 έως τις 6:30. Tα τμήματα θα είναι ολιγομελή (μέχρι 10 άτομα). GCM & SUDANESE COOPERATE ON LANGUAGE SCHOOLS

Representatives of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Victoria, (GCM) the Federation of South Sudanese Associations in Victoria (FSSAV), Community Languages Victoria (CLV) and Kape Communications met recently over Zoom to discuss the next stage of development of South Sudanese language and cultural schools. CHANNEL 31 REMAINS ANOTHER YEAR ON AIR

Federal Minister for Communications Paul Fletcher announced the extention of the license of the Channel 31 for another year. In a last-minute reprieve, the Federal Goverment decided to allow the community station to stay on air for another year while it transitions to a digital-only broadcasting model. The GCM promoted a petition for the station and wrote to Federal Minister Paul Fletcher to extent its license.
