SEMINAR:  THE FORGOTTEN CITY OF THEBES

Emeritus Professor Paul Cartledge will present an online lecture entitled The Forgotten City of Thebes, on Thursday 8th April 2021, 7.00pm, as a part of the Greek History and Culture Seminars offered by the Greek Community of Melbourne.

THE GCM COMMEMORATES THE 200th ANNIVERSARY OF THE GREEK WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

Lansdowne Street was transformed by the Greek Community of Melbourne on Sunday 28 March, with explosions (quite literally at one point) of colours, music, dance, and drama. The event commemorated the 200th Anniversary of the Greek War of Independence and the feast day of Evagelismos with Hellenes and Philhellenes, flocking to East Melbourne to help celebrate this momentous occasion.

ANDREAS ANDRIANOPOULOS AND FAMILY ACKNOWLDEGED FOR THEIR GENEROUS SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITY, THIS TIME AT EVANGELISMOS

The GCM announced a significant donation by Andreas Andrianopoulos and his family towards the continued reinstatement of the church.  Mr Andrianopoulos and his family have been a long-time benefactor of the Greek Community of Melbourne.

CORONAVIRUS VACCINATION INFORMATION in Greek

The Australian Government is ensuring the COVID-19 Vaccination Program meets the needs of everyone in Australia, including those from culturally, ethnically, and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. A comprehensive vaccine implementation plan (the Plan) has been developed in partnership with multicultural specialist agencies – and with advice from the national CALD Communities COVID-19 Health Advisory Group – to reach people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Vaccinations will be accessible on a rolling basis, depending on vaccine delivery schedules and prioritisation of groups for most urgent vaccination.

COMEDY FESTIVAL IS NOW PLAYING AT THE GREEK CENTRE

Following the cancelation of the festival in 2020, the renowned Melbourne International Comedy Festival is up and live across Melbourne including at the Greek Centre.

THE GCM’s PROGRAM CELEBRATING 200th ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1821 WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

2021 sees Greece and the Greek diaspora celebrating the 200 year anniversary of the War of Independence and the creation of the modern Greek state. To celebrate this event the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria, with the support of the official Greece21 Committee, has created a year long program of events for your enjoyment.

THE GCM’S LANGUAGE & CULTURE SCHOOLS 

The Greek Community of Melbourne Language Schools provide innovative and high-quality Greek Language and Culture classes for students from Kinder to VCE. Children learn to speak Greek in a fun and engaging environment, through song, dance, crafts and creative drama during the early years, as well as more formal methods as they reach appropriate ages.
