LIVE AT THE GREEK: MARIOS PAPADEAS

Greek Centre | Friday 15 June  |  Marios Papadeas is a renowned santouri player and vocalist who has performed in Greece and internationally for many years. He plays traditional repertoire from Asia Minor and the songs composed by the Greek refugee musicians from that area such as Dalgas (Antonis Diamantidis) Panos Tountas and Kostas Skarvelis. Joining him at the Greek Centre will be local musicians Con Kalamaras (from the Melbourne Rebetiko Ensemble - guitar & tzouras), Mairead Hannan (from the Xylouris Ensemble - violin & voice) and Wayne Simmons (from Polyxeni - guitar, accordion & banjo). This is a unique opportunity to hear a virtuoso performance on this rare instrument and through the power of Mario's voice to experience the bygone of era of the first recordings of Greek popular music from the 20s and early 30s. Don't miss out!

After a sell out Live at the Greek in 2017, Agapi + Friends are back again to perform a selection of nostalgic and much loved Greek classics from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. Featuring Aggie Gioftsidis (vocals), Dean Georgalas (bouzouki), Nick Baltas (guitar) & John Spantsios (percussion and vocals), the group have hand-picked some of their favorite songs from that era, paying tribute to legendary artists such as Haris Alexiou, Marinella, and Glykeria to name a few. Their passion for performing is infectious and their rapport with one another and their audience shines through, ensuring that you’ll be singing (and dancing) along from the first song through to the very last.
