SPECIAL FEATURE FOR GREEK COMMUNITY LEADERS

Representatives of Victorian Greek community organisations, were hosted by the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) at a recent special screening of the moving Greek comedy Jamaica that was a smash hit at the recent Greek Film festival.

Part of regular such meetings, the audience that included GCM benefactors, were welcomed by GCM Vice President Theo Markos who highlighted the GCM’s current activity and future plans encouraging all organisations to join in creating a strong Greek community lobby.

FILM SCREENING:
ELDORADO-THE STRUGGLE FOR SKOURIES

Greek Centre |  6 December  |  “Eldorado: the struggle for Skouries” is a documentary film about the on-going struggle of a small community in the Halkidiki region of northern Greece against a proposed gold mine owned by Canadian mining giant Eldorado Gold.

The film shows the history of the communities struggle to protect the forests, rivers and their livelihoods in tourism and agriculture from the damage caused by this high risk, open cut gold mine and the criminalization of their struggle by the Greek State.

Greek Centre | 2 December | Outside The Box Press invites you to the launch of the novel-in-verse "Just Give Me The Pills" by writer and performer Koraly Dimitriadis to be launched by poet and playwright, Emilie Collyer. The night will include a lineup of poets and musicians from migrant backgrounds.

ALEXANDER THE GREAT AND GREEK CAPPADOCIANS

Kolokotronis Centre | 12 December  | The Australian Institute of Macedonian Studies, the Greek-Australian Cultural League, the Panarcadian Society of Melbourne and Victoria “Kolokotronis”, the Cultural Section of AHEPA Victoria and the Greek Community of Melbourne are organizing a special event for the Alexander the Great and the Greek Cappadocians.
