A COALITION OF COMMUNITY GROUPS MEET TO HELP SAVE GREEK STUDIES AT LA TROBE

Dozens of Greek community leaders attended an urgent meeting called by the Greek Community of Melbourne, on Monday evening, to discuss the proposal to terminate the Modern Greek Studies language program at La Trobe University.

Στις 11 Νοεμβρίου, η Ελληνική Κοινότητα Μελβούρνης (ΕΚΜ) ενημερώθηκε σχετικά με τα σχέδια του Πανεπιστημίου La Trobe για την διακοπή του προγράμματος Ελληνικών Σπουδών. Η ΕΚΜ έγραψε αμέσως στον Αντιπρύτανη, εκφράζοντας τις ανησυχίες της και ζητώντας μια άμεση συνάντηση.

THE PROGRAM FOR 2021 SEMINAR SERIES: Major focus on 1821 War of Independence  

The program for the GCM’s Greek History and Culture Seminar Series for 2021 has just been released. As 2021 coincides with the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence, it’s probably the most ambitious series attempted so far. More than half the program has been dedicated to 1821 themes. COMMEMORATING THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE ATHENS POLYTECHNIC UPRISING 

Every year, the Greek Community of Melbourne together with the other members of the Polytechnic Commemorative Committee honoured the anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic students heroic uprising against the junta, with a special event often organised at the Democritus Cultural Centre. This year because of the pandemic such an event will not take place but the students of our Bentleigh and City campuses honoured the Polytechnic uprising with a special online event. 

A SPECIAL STUDENT EVENT FOR 28 OCTOBER AND 17 NOVEMBER

As part of the anniversary cultural events for the October 28th and the November 17th, students from our schools prepared poems and short stories, which they recited in an online celebration and were also broadcast on SBS Greek radio.

Στα πλαίσια των επετειακών πολιτιστικών εκδηλώσεων της 28ης Οκτωβρίου και 17 Νοέμβρη, μαθητές των σχολείων μας, ετοίμασαν ποίηματα και πεζά, τα οποία απήγγειλαν στην διαδικτυακή γιορτή αλλά και μεταδόθηκαν σε ηχογραφημένη μορφή από την ραδιοφωνία της SBS Greek.

GCM STUDENTS PERFORM THE TALE "THE YOUNG ROOSTER"

Greek language students from the Balwyn school campus of the Greek Community of Melbourne, performed the radio-edition of the tale 'The Young Rooster' by Greek author Glyka Stoiou in a special online meeting with the author.

Μαθητές από τη Σχολική Μονάδα Balwyn της Κοινότητάς μας, πραγματοποίησαν την ραδιο-έκδοση του παραμυθιού «Το Πετειναράκι» της Γλύκας Στοίου σε μια ειδική διαδικτυακή συνάντηση. Η συγγραφέας είχε την ευκαιρία να ακούσει την παρουσίαση των μαθητών πριν μεταδοθεί από το ραδιόφωνο της SBS.
