GCM PRESIDENT ATTENDS MEETING WITH ACTING IMMIGRATION MINISTER ALAN TUDGE

Τhe GCM was invited recently to meet with the Acting Immigration Minister, the Hon Alan Tudge.  GCM President Bill Papastergiadis, attended an online meeting organised by Minister Tudge that included other leading Australian community leaders for a briefing on the budget and its effect on immigration and multicultural communities.  The Minister emphasised the Government’s plans for recovery post Covid19 and the significance of social cohesion during these testing times. LORD MAYOR SALLY CAPP PLEDGES MARKETING BOOST FOR LONSDALE ST GREEK PRECINCT 

Melbourne’s Historic Lonsdale Street Greek Precinct will benefit to the tune of $100,000 over two years pledged incumbent Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp.  Cr Capp has been a great supporter of the Greek Community’s and a regular guest at our events, is a very vocal proponent of the Precinct program and the Historic Greek precinct is running for re-election in the upcoming council elections.  [Click link below to see full article]…

THE GCM’S EDUCATION PROGRAMS CONTINUE STRONGLY DURING THE PANDEMIC

COVID 19 has interrupted many of our programs but it has not deterred the GCM’s education unit from continuing its hard work on the development of Greek language and culture.   The team, led by GCM Vice President Theo Markos has seen to maintaining all of its programs online and continued its advocacy and collaborations online.   Most recently, the team met with the Modern Greek Teachers Association of Victoria, who are involved in the Greek language programs which operate in various primary and secondary state schools. Η πανδημία COVID 19 δεν επηρέασε αρνητικά τον εκπαιδευτικό τομέα της Koινότητάς μας να συνεχίσει τις δράσεις του σε μια σειρά θεμάτων. Μαζί με την Ένωση Εκπαιδευτικών Βικτώριας, διοργανώθηκαν διαδικτυακές συναντήσεις μέσω Zoom με γονείς και εκπαιδευτικούς που συμμετέχουν σε προγράμματα ελληνικής γλώσσας που λειτουργούν σε διάφορα δημοτικά και δευτεροβάθμια κρατικά σχολεία.
