WEEK ONE - GREEK WRITERS FESTIVAL
Friday 31 May until Sunday 2 June Greek Writers Festival makes its debut at The Greek Centre this week with five big days of informative and entertaining sessions.
Friday 31 May from 6.30pm Opening Night kicks off Friday with a panel discussion by three literary mavericks on Growing Up Greek and Rebellious. Hosted by Professor Karalis, Sir Nicholas Laurantus Professor Modern Greek Chair at the University of Sydney. Tickets $15 and include a glass of bubbly upon arrival.
Saturday Snapshot Saturday will be the first big day of the festival with eleven sessions on offer. Click here to see full program: https://www.greekcentre.com.au/portfolio/greek-writers-festival-program/ Saturday's program will conclude with the intriguing Forked Tongues: Bilingual Reading I & II. Split across two events running simultaneously, these sessions will feature readings from a variety of culturally and linguistically diverse poets and storytellers in different tongues, dialects, vernaculars, patois and pidgins, including “Greeklish.” So many in fact, that we couldn’t fit them all into one room! Tickets only $10. Secure your seat now or better yet why not grab your Saturday day pass for $29 to take advantage of all sessions on offer (excludes Workshops).
Sunday Snapshot The weekend will also deliver some great free events (predominantly on Sunday) like: The Word and the Image (Sat); Is there a "Greek Australian" literary canon? (Sun); From Existential to the Divine (Sun); Πες τα Χρυσόστομε! Open Mic (Greek Language) (Sun); Translation: Lost and Found (Sun); Intergenerational Greek-English poetry reading (Sun).
