Synopsis

In this talk Prof. Margaret Cameron will take a fresh look at Aristotle’s writings on ethics and consider their relevance to us today.
What does it mean to be a virtuous person? What is the value of cultivating our virtues in today’s world? Should we recognize the same virtues as Aristotle did, or have these changed over time?
In answering these questions, we will explore what Aristotle meant by saying that being a good person should never be painful. In other words, it shouldn’t hurt to be good.
Is Aristotle right?
