Synopsis

This seminar is a tribute to the Centenary of the Kastellorizian Association of Victoria, a significant milestone within the Greek Community of Melbourne & Victoria. Her presentation will focus on the remarkable achievements of the Castellorizian Ladies Society, Melbourne 1961-1978 and their quest to be heard and taken seriously not just by their immediate community but also by the wider Greek community and Melbourne establishment. It's an opportunity to step back in time and reminisce about the trials and tribulations of one of the  first independent ladies society established within the Greek community of Melbourne. Hear about the issues they faced, the hectic social calendar they developed and the fun and laughter which they brought into the Kastellorizian community of Melbourne.

Bio

In 2011, after 35 years as secondary school teacher, Florence retired and had more time on her hands to pursue her lifelong passion, to research and record the history of the early Kastellorizians who settled in Australia. She also took on the role as the Archivist and Historian for the KAV. Her current research focuses on the early Kastellorizians who settled in Melbourne circa World War 1. Florence also volunteers her services weekly at the Archive Centre of the Greek Community of Melbourne, assisting Historian Georgia Charpantidou to restore and categorise the archives which were held in storage for many years.
