Gala-night feature: The Last Note
This year's Opening Night feature The Last Note by Pantelis Voulgaris is a heart-rending story of one of the darkest episodes of Nazi occupation in Greece. Co-written by Voulgaris’ wife and acclaimed novelist Ioanna Karystiani, the film recounts the lead-up to the mass execution of 200 Greek war prisoners in Chaidari concentration camp in retaliation to the ambush of four Nazi officers.

Opening remarks by Phil Kafcaloudes, grandson of one of the victims (Astor only)
Phil’s grandfather, Christos Maniarizis was one of the Haidari 200 massacred by the Germans on the 1st of May, 1944. Christos was a 28 year old Volos newspaperman with a young wife and nine-year old son when the Metaxas regime came to power in 1936.
He, like many other journalists around Greece, railed against the coup and the dissolution of democracy. The Prime Minister ordered Christos and many other journalists to be arrested, demanding they pledge allegiance to the new government.
Those who refused were taken to an island near Santorini for some years, before returning to the mainland. From the time of his arrest to the massacre eight years later, Christos never saw a moment of freedom.

Simply walk the red carpet at the Astor and snap a selfie in front of the Delphi Bank Media Wall in the foyer (look for the big 25), post it to your Instagram page tagging the pic with @delphibank and #delphibank and you will be in the running to win $250!
