A Story About Family, Community and Living Your Truth
Coming Out for Christmas follows Alex, a queer young Greek-Australian woman bringing her Aussie girlfriend home for Christmas lunch — only to discover her family is hiding something too. A fast, funny story about family, community and the courage it takes to live your truth.

Comedy, Music, Sound — A Live Audio Play
Performed in English with live singing and evocative sound effects, the show brings a Greek-Australian Christmas lunch to life: big emotions, big food, loud “rellos,” secrets, surprises and a queer couple trying to survive the day. “There’s catching up with relatives, family friends, amazing traditional dishes… Throw in a queer couple and unexpressed anxiety about what the ‘rellos’ will think, and it’s either a comedy or will end in tears — or both.” — Director Demetra Giannakopoulos

Meet the Cast
Daphne Gerolymou-Papadopoulos as Alex — a third-generation Greek-Australian navigating her family’s reaction to her being a lesbian. Maria Papas as Irini, Alex’s mother. Cosima Gilbert as Jodie, Alex’s Aussie girlfriend. Vicki Pappas as Stav, a family friend and Alex’s childhood crush. Bryan Yap as Jamie, Alex’s gay childhood friend.
The cast brings warmth, charm and big laughs to a story that feels unmistakably Greek-Australian.

A Story Audiences Loved
The show premiered in 2022 as part of the Greek Community of Melbourne’s Storytelling Project, selling out immediately and receiving praise for its honest, warm and sharply funny portrayal of multicultural queer life. Neos Kosmos wrote: “…a sold-out night… buzzing with a diverse group of Melbournians drawn to this unique Greek-Australian story.”
This year’s return promises the same warmth, humour and heart that made audiences connect so deeply with Alex’s story.
