Synopsis
With the exception of the Moldo-Wallachian principalities, the Greek War of Independence is presented generally in the national narrative as one taking place within the confines of the borders of the modern country of Greece. However, the War of Independence had profound consequences and was deeply felt among all Christian, especially Orthodox populations in the Middle East. This lecture will examine attempts made by Greek Revolutionaries to raise parts of Syria in revolt against the Ottomans.
