The Greek Community of Melbourne, in celebration of the 200 year anniversary of the Greek War of Independence, is proud to present: Tsitsanis, Hatzidakis, Xarchakos, Theodorakis: Songs of liberation by Greece’s four great composers. Being performed at Melbourne Recital Centre on Saturday 29 May by international vocalist, Dimitris Basis, and conductor, George Ellis, directing a symphony orchestra.

The concert honours the way that music and song have inspired Hellenes to struggle for a better world while also honouring those who have given up their lives for the cause. We are presenting a concert with songs of revolution, liberation, and empowerment created over several decades by four great composers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries: Vassilis Tsitsanis, Manos Hatzidakis, Stavros Xarchakos and Mikis Theodorakis. The concert will feature, as soloist, acclaimed vocalist Dimitris Basis, together with a Greek band, and symphony orchestra, under the direction of conductor George Ellis.
